WW1 ‘Recruitment’ Day
Bradford on Avon Museum
21st August 2017 @ 10.30 – 12.30pm & 1.30 – 3.30pm
This exciting FREE family event is organised by Bradford on Avon Museum, and will include talks, costume and re-enactments for the kids. The day will start with a short, engaging presentation about WW1, before the boys in the audience have the opportunity to be ‘recruited’ as soldiers, and the girls as Red Cross VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) Nurses. There’ll be lots of dressing up, and also lessons in drill (marching) and bandaging for the ‘nurses’. There will also be great opportunities for photographs against a period backdrop – memorable experiences guaranteed!
The session will repeat in the afternoon, for those who can’t make it earlier – just turn up for either 10.30am, or 1.30pm (no booking required). The event is completely free to attend for the family, though donations toward the work of the museum are always appreciated!
You’ll also be able to see two of Wiltshire at War’s fascinating exhibitions, telling the stories of our ancestors across the county, and how their lives changed because of the Great War. The museum will be displaying a collection of their own WW1 artefacts, such as medals, medallions, and even some archive photographs of the Red Cross Hospital at Avoncliffe (which celebrates its centenary this year). Do come along!
